   VX1000 | voxeljet 3D printing systems

VX1000 - the productive universal expert

Our international bestseller: the VX1000 is a universal 3D printer for
industrial applications. The machine is fast, easy to operate and enables
you to cost-effectively produce medium-sized models for making prototypes.
The VX1000 is also an excellent choice for producing small series.

Sand casting molds - rapid and economical

3D printers from voxeljet can be used for the time- and cost-efficient
production of sand molds and cores for metal casting. The molds are
produced by applying a particle material in layers and selectively bonding
it with a binder. Silica sand is used as the particulate material.

Investment casting and design models made of plastic

3D printing with plastic is the ideal solution for cost-effective and
time-saving production of investment casting and design models. The models
are produced by applying a particulate material in layers and selectively
bonding it with a binder. PMMA (polymethyl methacrylate), an acrylic
plastic, is used as the particulate material.

3D printing saves up to 75% in sand casting costs

3D printing brings time and cost saving advantages when compared to
conventional manufacturing. In direct comparison to conventional
production, 3D printing illustrates a clear cost profit. When the
production in conventional production lies at around 3.600 €, the
production with 3D printing can be reduced to 900 €.

voxeljet - your partner for productivity in industrial 3D printing

voxeljet is a leading manufacturer of industrial 3D printing systems for
producing molds and models without tools. voxeljet has offices in Germany,
the United States, the U.K., India and China.

voxeljet has a well-coordinated product range, from small research models
to large-format industrial machines, and can therefore offer the perfect
3D printing system for virtually any application.

voxeljet also produces sand molds and plastic models on demand, based on
CAD data, in its advanced service centers. Our customers include prominent
automobile manufacturers and their suppliers, foundries, design
   departments and artists.

Continuous innovation for the best solution

We believe in making changes to product development processes and
manufacturing methods, modifications that increase efficiency and
effectiveness—and strengthen our customers on the global market. We want
to actively contribute to this goal by continuously further developing
   innovative 3D systems.

We want to shape the future. We therefore seek not only a solution for our
customers but the very best one: intelligent and innovative ideas that
constantly raise the technological standard one level higher. We draw
inspiration and enthusiasm from new ideas, tasks and technologies.

Our name stands for dynamic technology

Voxel expresses the smallest possible volume elements that can be
represented in three-dimensional space, comparable to the pixels in
printing technology. Jet comes from the word "inkjet," which is our key
technology. In combination, "voxeljet" stands for the inkjet-based 3D
printing process. Nozzles are used to apply a chemical binder. Unlike
laser-based systems, this process is designed for size and speed and helps
make you both more flexible and more productive.

                          The voxeljet company history

2017

First VX500 PMMA system installment in India

Besides past sand installations, voxeljet released its first PMMA printer
in India. The VX500 system was installed at IPCL (Investment & Precision
Casting Ltd.), a leading investment casting company in India. IPCL was
founded in 1975 and has become the technology leader in the Indian
investment casting industry, producing very complex investment castings in
a wide range of material specifications and piece weights up to 200 kg.
Through collaborations with partner firms, refined by in-house research
and development, as well as the incorporation of latest technologies, like
3D printing, the company can quickly produce its own investment casting
patterns and thus optimize their time to market for their products.

Capacity expansion at headquarters in Germany

A new hall and office building were put into operation in April 2017.
Additional 5,300  square meters are now available for the construction of
3D printing systems and administration & management.

2016

Capacity expansion – Laying of the cornerstone for the new production building
at voxeljet’s head office in Friedberg (Bavaria)

In line with the company's growth, additional space for the production of
3D printing systems and administration is created at voxeljet’s head
office in Friedberg (Bavaria). A total of ca. 13.000 m² will now be
available for the production of the printing systems, 3D printing services
   and administration.

World’s largest 3D printing system goes into operation in the US

voxeljet increases its presence in the US growth market with the start-up
of the largest 3D printing system in Michigan. With the VX4000 3D printer,
one of the leading providers of large-format 3D printers and on-demand
component services underlines its important position in the US market.

Topology-optimized casting receives the "Component of the Year" award

A joint project between the Precision Casting Centre foundry and voxeljet
UK has received the coveted "Component of the Year" award from the British
Cast Metals Federation (CFM). This joint project involved an aluminum
Wheel Upright that is five times more rigid than before, while maintaining
   the same weight.

2015

voxeljet is expanding to China and India

voxeljet announces a joint venture with the Suzhou Meimai Fast
Manufacturing Technology Co., Ltd., a leading provider for sand printing
and rapid casting in China. A long term relationship as sales partner and
experience with voxeljet printers were the precondition for this
cooperation. The joint venture shall be called voxeljet China Ltd. and
will be controlled by the headquarter in Germany. As part of voxeljet´s
growth strategy the new subsidiary was founded to be a direct operating
presence in the Chinese 3D printing market.

voxeljet India Pvt. Ltd. was successfully incorporated in December 2015.
The subsidiary will be headquartered in Pune, a big automotive and
manufacturing hub in central India. The foundry industry in India has been
very traditional in its approach and operations until now. But with the
world wide proliferation of 3D printing technologies, the foundries in
India are also beginning to take interest in 3D printing. voxeljet, as
leading provider of industrial 3D solutions, wants to strengthen its
market position in India in an early stage.

  voxeljet delivers 100th 3D printer

3D print pioneer voxeljet from Friedberg (Bavaria) is celebrating a
special kind of anniversary. The high-tech company, which has established
a name for itself as a manufacturer of industrial 3D printing systems and
as a service provider for the on-demand production of sand molds and
plastic models, is pleased to announce that it is delivering its 100th 3D
   printer in November 2015.

voxeljet honored with “Newcomer of the Year Award” in New York

voxeljet is delighted to be the winner of this year's “Newcomer of the
Year Award”. The jury of the German American Chamber of Commerce, Inc. in
New York considered that voxeljet´s innovative technology and approach to
both the German and US markets allowed our company “to stand out, even
among the most talented German companies currently developing their US
   operations.”

  voxeljet receives Bavarian Founder's Prize

voxeljet receives the Bavarian Founder's Prize 2015 (Bayerischer
Gründerpreis) in the Up-and-Coming category for its outstanding
performance. The expansive and successfully implemented corporate strategy
is one of the reasons why voxeljet receives the award in the Up-and-Coming
   category.

2014

Phenolic resin binder opens up new possibilities

voxeljet developed the new Phenolic-Direct-Binding method. This method
does not only offer key advantages for sand printing but also allows for
   the production of ceramic molds.

voxeljet to open branch office and service center in the United States

A long-standing vision came true when voxeljet opened its own office and
   service center in Canton (Michigan).

The first commercially available continuous 3D printer VXC800 is launched.
This innovation establishes a completely new generation of machines that
allows the building and unpacking process steps to run
simultaneously without having to interrupt system operations.

  VX200: The small-format 3D printer

The VX200 is the smallest 3D printer in the voxeljet portfolio. The
machine is very compact, easy to operate and presents a
competitively-priced entry point into the world of 3D print technology.
The VX200 features all of the advantages of the large machines on a
   smaller platform.

First VX1000 is sold to UK

The first VX1000 is sold to the British company Propshop Modelmakers Ltd.
This is already the fifth voxeljet system, which is installed in the UK.
voxeljet opens up the film industry as a market for large size printing of
   models.

2011

  New dimensions in 3D printing

voxeljet unveils its VX4000 3D printing system adding a new size
capability in additive manufacturing. It is now possible to build objects
   with dimensions of 4 x 2 x 1 meters.

Continuous 3D printing presented at GIFA

Continuous 3D printing technology represents a new dimension in the
manufacturing of molds and models without tools. At the GIFA trade fair,
voxeljet unveils the concept for the first continuous 3D printer. The
process steps of building and unpacking run in parallel, without having to
   interrupt system operation.

voxeljet presents new 3D printer VX1000

voxeljet celebrates the world premiere of the VX1000 3D printer at the
EuroMold in Frankfurt. The new machine combines high performance with a
very large build space, enabling it to meet even the most demanding
   industrial requirements.

New binder for pure white models

The voxeljet service center offers an optional new material system. The
new material is called Polypor Type C and differs from Polypor Type B in
that the finished plastic models feature are very white and are thus able
to meet demanding requirements with respect to the model's look and feel.

2010

  Relocation of the company

In spring, voxeljet relocates its premises to the Business Park in
Friedberg, which also offers a new production area and a spacious
   administration building.

  Top100 innovators

Innovation pays off: voxeljet technology is ranked among the 100 top
innovators in Germany and receives the "Top 100" hallmark of excellence.
This success is based on the actively driven innovation process at
   voxeljet.

in the German Business plan contest STARTUP in the same year. The young
company beats 1261 contestants from all over the country and receives a
cash prize and free support of McKinsey experts for a year.

1999

voxeljet was founded on May 5, 1999

Our company was established with the goal of developing new generative
processes for the production of casting and plastics components using 3D
printing. In the beginning, operations are launched with four employees at
the Technical University of Munich. Shortly afterwards the headquarters in
   Augsburg are established.

< 1995:

  The beginnings

voxeljet's roots reach back to the year 1995 with the first successful
dosing of UV-resins. In the context of a "hidden" project, initial
3D-printing tests are performed at the Technical University of Munich. In
1996, the project participates in the 1st Munich Business plan contest and
in 1998 the first patent is granted. The first sand molds are printed at
   the University in 1998.

3D printing helps to return a silverback gorilla back to life

There are several cases where modelers, designers, artists and restorers
come to certain limits when creating a piece of work. Particularly when it
comes to the creation of bigger, complex and detailed pieces of art.
Traditional methods are proving not only to be more time intensive but
often times also very cost intensive. Through a combination of new 3D
printing technology and traditional artwork, designers have the
possibility “to create efficiencies and help artists render their
concepts, from start to finish”, says Rop Arps (Tacoma News Tribune,
   2016).

included in the production of a variety of films including Skyfall, Star
Wars: The Force Awakens, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Thor: The Dark
World. Props in these movies have been used in many different ways and
there are several reasons why producers are, increasingly, having props 3D
   printed.

General terms and conditions of purchasing

1. Scope

These general terms and conditions of purchasing (hereinafter: T&Cs)
1.1 apply to all contracts, and also to ancillary services, consultancy
services and advice, which we, voxeljet AG, sign in the role of
       purchaser/buyer.
These T&Cs, and these T&Cs alone, apply to all contracts signed by us
in the role of purchaser/buyer, even for ancillary services,
consultancy services and advice. The order confirmation of the
       contractor/seller (hereinafter: contractor) simultaneously implies
1.2 that our T&Cs have been recognised and become a part of the contract.
Conflicting or deviating conditions of the contractor are hereby
rejected. They will only become a part of the contract if we agree to
them in writing in individual cases. Our T&Cs apply even if we accept
the deliverable from the contractor without reservation in full
knowledge of contrary or deviating conditions of the contractor.
Our T&Cs apply only to corporates (Section 14 of the German Civil
1.3 Code), legal persons under public law, or public special funds within
the meaning of Section 310 paragraph 1 sentence 1 of the German Civil
       Code.
1.4 Our T&Cs also apply to all future contracts with the contractor that
       we sign as the purchaser/buyer.
All agreements between us and the contractor, as well as supplements
1.5 and changes to these agreements, must be in written form. This also
applies to a waiver of the written form requirement.

2. Order and order confirmation

Our orders must be accepted/confirmed by the contractor promptly upon
receipt. If we do not receive the order acceptance within one week of
2.1 receipt of the order by the contractor, we reserve the right to
withdraw the order. Verbal orders require our written confirmation to
come into effect. Our order number must be specified in the order
confirmation as well as in all correspondence.
We expressly reserve the right to demand changes to the deliverable in
terms of design and execution from the contractor within reasonable
2.2 bounds. If such a case occurs, the effects of these changes,
especially additional or reduced costs as well as delivery dates, must
be taken into account by mutual agreement and in a reasonable manner.

3. Prices; Payment terms; Offsets, Retention; Refusal of performance

The prices agreed with the contractor are fixed prices and include
dispatch, packing, transportation and insurance costs as well as
3.1 import or export duties. We will accept additional claims only with an
express written confirmation or an express written change in the
       purchase order.
Unless otherwise agreed in writing, we pay within 14 calendar days
with a 3% discount or net within 30 calendar days. The payment due
date will be calculated starting on the day on which the delivery or
3.2 deliverable as well as the invoice have been received by us, or for a
work contract, not earlier than on the day of acceptance. Our actions
initiating payment will be definitive for our compliance with the
payment due date. Receipt or acceptance of the deliverable has no
connection with our payment in any way.
3.3 Payment will be made by bank transfer only.
3.4 If the deliverable is faulty, we are entitled to retain payment on a
pro rata basis till proper fulfilment by the contractor.
3.5 If there is a delay in payment by us, the contractor can claim penal
       interest of maximum 5% p.a.
3.6 Assignment of receivables or debit mandates require our express
       consent.
The contractor is entitled to set-off rights, retention rights and the
right to refuse performance only if his counterclaims are determined
3.7 to be binding or are undisputed. In addition, the contractor is only
entitled to exercise his right of retention to the extent to which his
counterclaim is based on the same contract.

4. Delivery / Performance; Time limits; Due dates; Delay

All the deadlines, including intermediate and individual deadlines,
agreed for the services of the contractor are binding and must be met
by the supplier. Deadlines shall only be considered to have been met
if the deliverable is available on the agreed date at the agreed
location. If the supplier recognises or has to recognise that
4.1 fulfilment of the deadline is in jeopardy, he must immediately notify
us as such in writing, while also specifying the possible date of
delivery of the deliverable. Even if we agree to the new delivery
date, our claims for delayed performance remain unaffected. This
point, no. 4.1, holds good correspondingly for due dates, including
intermediate due dates and individual due dates, which have been
agreed for the performances of the contractor.
If there is a default by the contractor, then after a reasonable grace
4.2 period that is granted has elapsed without any effect, we are
entitled, at our discretion, to withdraw from the contract and/or to
demand damage compensation instead of the performance.
The supplier shall ensure, if he has delivered production equipment to
4.3 us, that he is in a position to deliver the equipment or parts of the
equipment as spare parts on reasonable terms for a period of 15 years
following the termination of the supply relationship.
The contractor can only effectively invoke force majeure if its
occurrence is proved to us not later than 24 hours before the agreed
delivery date in specific and detailed format in writing or by fax. If
4.4 the notification is not forwarded by the time specified in sentence 1,
then the contractor can only invoke a case of force majeure if the
force majeure can be proved to have occurred within the 24-hour period
and was the cause of the delay in performance.
The contractor always has to carry out the delivery himself. Delivery
4.5 of performance by a third party (supplier/subcontractor) needs our
       previous consent.
The contractor undertakes to deploy, in the framework of the contract,
4.6 only employees and third parties entrusted in conformity with number
4.4 for whom all legal registration, disclosure and submission
requirements have been correctly fulfilled in time.

5. Dispatch; Risk assumption; Packing

Unless otherwise agreed, delivery will be free at the risk of the
5.1 contractor to the agreed receiving address. Number 7 remains
       unaffected.
The contractor will take back all the packaging material at his cost.
5.2 The place of performance for the take-back obligation applicable as
per Section 4 of the Packaging Ordinance is the place of fulfilment
       (number 12.2).

6. Quality; Documentation; Production documents; Data

The deliverables of the contractor must conform to the documents on
which the contract is based, with regard to the agreed execution,
6.1 quality, colouring, quantity and our technical specifications as well
as (with lower priority) the contractor’s own technical
       specifications.
We shall get all the documents that the contractor has to hand over or
make available to us according to the contract (operating and
6.2 maintenance manuals, documentation, calibration and test certificates,
plans etc.) in German. The contractor will bear the cost of the agreed
translations into other languages. The contractor shall be liable for
       correct translation.

7. Work contracts acceptance

If installation, assembly or other work contracts are a part of the
scope of the contract for the contractor, the following applies: A
formal acceptance is always necessary. It can only be carried out
after a test phase has ended successfully. A fictional or conclusive
7.1 acceptance, especially from commencement of use, is prohibited. The
transfer of risk takes place no earlier than at the time of
acceptance. Our contractual penalty claims on the contractor remain
unaffected even if we do not express reservations related to them at
       the time of acceptance.

8. Warranty claims; Statute of limitations

The contractor will undertake the warranty for his performance in
accordance with the legal regulations. Over and above the obligations
8.1 according to number 6.1, the contractor shall guarantee that his
deliverables will have all the quality characteristics agreed in the
contract as well as full functional capability.
8.2 A confirmation of payment or goods having been received do not
       represent approval.
We may return defective deliverables at the cost of the contractor.
Notwithstanding the legal warranty claims, in cases where there is
8.3 particular urgency and/or the threat of substantial damage, we are
entitled to implement remedial performance in a manner that appears
most suitable to us by way of fulfilment at the cost of the
       contractor.
The statute of limitations for our warranty claims for all
8.4 deliverables of the supplier is uniformly 5 years, unless the law
prescribes a longer period for the statute of limitations. The start
of the statute of limitations depends on the legal regulations.

9. Liability and insurance

The supplier shall guarantee that his products are free of defects
within the meaning of the Product Liability Act. If a claim is filed
9.1 against us owing to a defect or error in the deliverable of the
contractor for liability regardless of fault/absolute liability,
especially from product liability, the supplier will indemnify us to
the fullest extent even without proof of culpability.
9.2 The contractor is liable for measures that we take for damage
prevention and damage limitation (such as product recalls).
9.3 The supplier shall take out indemnity insurance covering at least the
value of the deliverable and produce it upon demand.

10. Confidentiality

The supplier has a responsibility to always - even in cases of doubt
        - treat all our technical, commercial and personal processes and
relationships (which are not in the public domain), which become
known to him from and in the context of the contractual relationship
10.1 with us, as business and operational secrets, to keep them
confidential and ensure that they are not disclosed to unauthorised
third parties (including family members or co-workers not concerned
with the matter). The obligation of secrecy continues even after the
        contract has ended.
If there is a culpable infraction of the obligation to secrecy, the
contractor is obliged to pay a contractual penalty of 5% of the net
10.2 order value for every single and individual infraction, unless he is
able to prove that we will suffer very little or no damage as a
result of the infraction. In any case, we shall always be entitled to
demand restitution for the actual damage incurred.

11. Copright of third parties

The contractor shall be liable for ensuring that his deliverable does
not infringe any domestic or foreign industrial copyright. If there
is an infringement of third party copyright through the use of the
contractor’s deliverable, then at our discretion, either the
contractor must procure, at his own cost, the right to use of the
11.1 copyright object, or alter the deliverable in such a way that there
is no infringement of copyright of the third party. Moreover, the
contractor also undertakes to release us or our customers as the case
may be from all damage compensation claims that result from an
infraction of a domestic or foreign copyright from the use of his
        deliverable.

12. Transfer of ownership

The deliverable becomes our property upon delivery. A declaration of
12.1 extended ownership retention requires our written consent for it to
be valid. If we make any parts, assemblies etc. available for
completion of the supplied object, they remain our property.

13. Force majeure

Force majeure, operational disturbances over which we have no
control, disorder, actions by government authorities and other
circumstances beyond our control release us from the responsibility
of timely acceptance for the duration of their existence.
Notwithstanding our other rights, during such events as well as
13.1 within two weeks after they have ended, we are entitled to withdraw
partially or wholly from the contract, insofar as these events are
not of an inconsiderable duration, and as a result, our requirement
reduces substantially owing to the consequential procurement from
other sources. The provisions in no. 13.1 also apply in case of
        industrial disputes.

14. Language; Place of performance; Place of jurisdiction; Applicable law

14.1 German is the language for negotiation and the language of the
contract. The language for execution of the contract is also German.
14.2 The place of performance for all performance responsibilities of the
        contractor is Augsburg.
If the contractor is a merchant, Augsburg is the sole place of
jurisdiction for all disputes arising directly or indirectly from the
contractual relationship. This will apply regardless of the merchant
14.3 attribute even if the contractor shifts his domicile or habitual
residence to a foreign country or his domicile or habitual residence
are not known at the time of filing a complaint. We are likewise also
entitled to file the complaint at the general place of jurisdiction
        of the contractor.
All legal relations or legal actions resulting from and in the
relationship between us and the contractor are subject solely to the
14.4 law of the Federal Republic of Germany, with the exception of the
United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of
        Goods (CISG).

voxeljet - 3D printing partner to many industries

Our case studies show that 3D printing with voxeljet is a faster way to
create innovative products and fascinating solutions as well as to
maximize economic feasibility in complex projects.

Foundries

3D printing with voxeljet facilities perfect solutions in both sand and
investment casting, due to the use of common foundry materials, such as
traditional silica sands, PMMA and suitable binder systems.

Automotive industry

The automotive and supplier industries greatly benefit from additive
manufacturing processes, since faster product development cycles can
dramatically shorten time to market, and design iterations can be carried
   out on screen without tools.

Reverse engineering

From the pump industry to owners of classic cars—more and more spare parts
are represented without tools by using modern measuring technology
   combined with 3D printing.

Aviation

Lightweight construction, functional enhancements and the joining of
multiple components give voxeljet customers in the aviation industry a
clear competitive advantage. In addition to optimized, resource-conserving
production, 3D printing enables better-performing components to be
   implemented quickly and easily.

Pumps and heavy industry

3D printing has been tried and tested in the development departments and
in the procurement of spare parts in the pump business and heavy industry.
The advantages of the technology can be seen mainly in assembly and in
   accuracy.

Architecture

The ability of architects to present the quality of their work as
realistically and detailed as possible is becoming ever more important.
Projects on the scale of models can take concrete shape with the aid of 3D
printing, so that proportions and the overall effect of the designs are
   immediately apparent to the viewer.

Art and design

3D printing is highly valued by artists and designers: It opens up
entirely new dimensions in creative design that go beyond the limits of
conventional technologies. Designs can be modified digitally at any time
and without tools, and the result can be evaluated directly as a printout.

Film and museums

The entertainment and film industry is becoming increasingly more
sophisticated. Camera resolutions are improving steadily, which means that
props need to have sharper details.

clear competitive advantage. In addition to optimized, resource-conserving
production, 3D printing enables better-performing components to be
implemented quickly and easily. Additively manufactured cast components
have a stable shape and are yet low-weight, which cuts fuel consumption
   and CO2 emissions.

Combined with simulation and topology optimization, in particular, 3D
printing has proven to be an extremely powerful tool for manufacturing
more functional and lighter-weight components. The use of 3D printing for
complex additive designs also helps prolong component life. Complex
assemblies (gearboxes and drive housings, impellers and pumps), which
cannot currently be reproduced with other additive direct-metal methods
due to dimensional limitations, can be produced cost-efficiently through
   cast parts.

Hyperloop concept of the Delft University of Technology

If it were up to visionary Elon Musk, Hyperloop would be the
transportation means of the future. It is expected to be as fast as an
airplane and as comfortable as a train. His vision of the futuristic
transportation system: pods that shoot through a tube at speeds of up to
   1,225 kilometers per hour.

How to increase performance of components efficiently

How can you increase component performance many times over without adding
   to the weight?

The aerospace sector is one of the most innovative industrial fields.
Development departments put in much effort to push forth new inventions.
Therefore we regard it as a matter of course keeping an extensive
confidentiality policy in relation to our clients’ projects. This is why we
can only exemplarily provide case studies for the aviation section. We
   hope for your understanding.

Projects on the scale of models can take concrete shape with the aid of 3D
printing, so that proportions and the overall effect of the designs are

have an outstanding mechanical stability but they also make it possible to
produce copies that represent the architectural concepts true to the
original down to the last detail. Printed models often also supply exact
templates for sculpting or historic preservation efforts.

Casting of concrete

Additive manufacturing constantly opens up new application fields in
architecture. Now architect Philippe Morel from Studio EZCT Architecture &
Design Research in Paris is using printed sand molds for research with
   ultra high-strength concrete.

Africa Model

The ability of architects to present the quality of their work in the most
realistic and detailed light as possible is becoming increasingly
important. Architectural models from 3D printers are the top choice in
this regard, as shown by a project for a social centre in Ghana.

The 3D printed house

Who will build the first house using 3D printing technology – and when?
Now the guessing game has come to an end: The house has been printed and
is located at voxeljet's service center in Friedberg near Augsburg.

European parliament

The extent to which architects, artists and sculptors can benefit from the
possibilities of 3D printing is demonstrated by the EUROPE project of
   Professor Dr. Tomasz Matusewicz.

Restauration by 3D printing

A real-life model of the famous Hathor chapel was produced with
high-precision 3D structured light scanning and 3D printing.

Replica of a monument

It was an unusual request for the voxeljet service center: The perfect
replica of a monument to create.

3DION and voxeljet completed a replica of the Cologne Cathedral

The 3DION 3D network, together with its partner voxeljet, one of the
leading manufacturers of 3D printing systems, implemented a prestige
   project for Cologne Cathedral.

voxeljet prints room sculpture

With their future-oriented project "Digital Grotto", visionaries Michael
Hansmeyer and Benjamin Dillenburger created the first walk-in space
   entirely with 3D printing.

Rebirth of the Lambertus Cathedral

Now the building, which was once one of Europe's largest cathedrals, is
celebrating its rebirth: as a bronze model at a scale of 1:100. The bronze
model rests on a 1.2 meter platform and measures 1.35 meters in height, 1
meter in width and 2 meters in length.

Design from a 3D Printer

Houses built with 3D printers are a hot topic of discussion around the
world right now. Similarly, much is also happening in this area in the US.

Architecture in bronze

The visually impaired can touch and feel the bronze models to obtain a
detailed impression of the shapes and surfaces of the buildings.

3D printing also makes it possible to produce batch sizes of 1 or limited
   editions quickly and cost-effectively.

Most artists and designers use voxeljet parts for metal casting, while
others achieve extraordinary results with epoxy resin-infiltrated models.
The powder-based 3D printing process from voxeljet provides an excellent
opportunity to further finish surfaces or colorize them with Paintbrush.
3D printing is used for ornaments, busts and sculptures, for example—the
large-dimension build volumes of the voxeljet systems, in particular offer
   a clear benefit.

Through a combination of new 3D
printing technology and traditional artwork, designers have the
possibility “to create efficiencies and help artists render their
concepts, from start to finish”, says Rop Arps (Tacoma News Tribune,
   2016).

Custom bikes in batch sizes of one

ideas2cycles is an interesting initiative that aims to develop new bike
concepts and quickly bring them to market.

Realisation of lamp designs

The trumpet-shaped openings of the Puja lamp give off both sound and
   light.

Designer lamps

Customised designer lamps are very trendy at the moment. They can be
efficiently produced at the service centre from batch sizes of one.

Designer furniture

Printed living room

Designer François Brument´s rooms, walls, furniture items become one and
can be freely defined by the designer and builder without any
   restrictions.

WMF Giant Spoon

It is 2.30 metres high, 50 centimetres wide, weighs almost 20 kilograms
and is the largest spoon that WMF has ever produced.

                              Automotive industry

The automotive and supplier industries greatly benefit from additive
manufacturing processes, since faster product development cycles can
dramatically shorten time to market, and design iterations can be carried
out on screen without tools. Today, numerous automotive OEMs use
voxeljet's printing systems, its on-demand printing service or a
combination of the two. For example, to optimize tools and molds before
they are actually produced—building them in batch sizes of one and forming
an accurate fit, thanks to 3D printing technology.

A wide range of parts is possible, ranging from cylinder heads,
turbochargers and intake manifolds to complete engine blocks, drive and
   engine components.

voxeljet supplies classic car aficionados with spare parts, finished
individual parts for motor racing, and produces exclusive special series
for automotive customers fast and cost-efficiently, due to rapid
   manufacturing.

GP roadster gear box

voxeljet and the Sicta foundry produced a gearbox for the Imperia GP
Roadster in less than three weeks.

Clutch housing using 3d printing

voxeljet was able to achieve this feat by building the sand mold for a
clutch case for automotive specialist Koncast in Weilbach in less than
five days using the layer building method.

Prototype car design

A somewhat unusual project underscores the capabilities of additive
manufacturing technology even beyond its classic areas of application.
voxeljet technology thus "printed" a vehicle model with sensory
capabilities as part of a student project.

How to increase performance of components efficiently

How can you increase component performance many times over without adding

Turbo charger manifold

In order to function at maximum efficiency, the turbo charger has to
retain a perfect geometry. Using construction and simulation tools,
developers are capable of designing this geometry with relative precision.

Sand molds used for laminate templates

The Elefant Racing team of the University of Bayreuth proves that sand
molds from a 3D printer are not just used as metal casts but are also
   ideally suited for laminate templates.

Magnesium wheel mounts

In just a few days, the moulds for the wheel mounts were created of furan
resin-bound moulding material, which is ideally suited for magnesium
melting thanks to its low binder content.

Intake Manifold

The sand process is used to save time and costs compared to expensive

The gearbox can only be generated by investment casting, because the
traditional production would be too expensive.

Reconstructing cylinder heads for Porsche legends

Oftenly special parts like cylinder heads for oltimers are not longer
available. In the event of damage, the only remedy is through customized
parts reconstruction or reverse engineering, and 3-D printing turned out

                                Film and museums

The entertainment and film industry is becoming increasingly more
sophisticated. Camera resolutions are improving steadily, which means that
props need to have sharper details. Producers, directors and customers
therefore attach ever greater importance to real, tangible models that
bring the ideas and digital concepts of the designers to life. voxeljet
fully meets all these requirements, especially in the area of PMMA: The
various applications range from helmets, armaments, figures and miniatures
for special effects to merchandising items.

Due to the achievable size and high component speeds, voxeljet can produce
a wide range of items: small concept models during the design phase or
perfect props that are true to the original—for the film and entertainment
industry as well as for museums. Design concepts and iterations can be
implemented quickly and effectively on the computer. The items can usually
   be printed overnight.

                                   Foundries

3D printing with voxeljet facilities perfect solutions in both sand and
investment casting, due to the use of common foundry materials, such as
traditional silica sands, PMMA and suitable binder systems. All castable
light-weight and heavy-weight metals can be processed with quality
comparable to series production and with the same handling. Complex
geometries can be represented precisely and time-efficiently with 3D
printing. Multiple components can also be joined together. This not only
reduces the number of parts but also saves foundries effort both before
   and after casting.

Highly complex water jacket core

Complex Impeller

Until now, the production of small batches of complex parts using the
investment casting method has been associated with considerable time and
cost requirements. The Schmolz + Bickenbach Guss Gruppe shows that there
   is another way:

Formula-1 Gear box

The gearbox can only be generated by investment casting, because the
traditional production would be too expensive.

Clutch housing using 3d printing

voxeljet was able to achieve this feat by building the sand mold for a
clutch case for automotive specialist Koncast in Weilbach in less than

How to increase performance of components efficiently

How can you increase component performance many times over without adding
   to the weight?

Prototype of a Francis Impeller

In the case of the francis runner, the foundry e-mailed the CAD data to
Augsburg as usual. Following a review, the data set was transferred to the
system, where the molds were created in just a few hours using Kerphalit –
a molding material particularly suited for iron and steel casting – in 0.3
   mm thin layers.

MAN-Cylinder head

A cylinder head weighing several tonnes was produced at MAN B&W Diesel AG
in Augsburg in record time, confirming the usefulness of the newest mold
   production technologies.

Intake Manifold

The sand process is used to save time and costs compared to expensive
   tools.

Investment casted impeller

As an alternative to the conventional construction the 3D printing is an
excellent choice. By using the layer building method the risks of
multi-core breakage during assembly, rework costs increased by unclean
core segment and impacts on sand casting error are avoided easily

Magnesium wheel mounts

In just a few days, the moulds for the wheel mounts were created of furan
resin-bound moulding material, which is ideally suited for magnesium
melting thanks to its low binder content.

Turbo charger manifold

In order to function at maximum efficiency, the turbo charger has to

Pump impeller

Sand casting molds from 3D printers give foundries a great many advantages
   – from shorter throughput times to less post-processing work and even
better surface quality of the unfinished cast parts.

Refit of a Grand Prix legend

The Delage Type S, with its potent 4.5 liter four-cylinder engine, was one
of the most significant race cars of its time. And the same can be said
about its longevity. The four-cylinder engine lasted 100 years before

3D PRINTING SAVES UP TO 75 % IN SAND CASTING COSTS

Economical production, from prototypes to small batches

3D printing brings time and cost saving advantages when compared to
conventional manufacturing. In direct comparison to conventional
production, 3D printing illustrates a clear cost profit. When the
production in conventional production lies at around 3.600 €, the
production with 3D printing can be reduced to 900 €.

3D printing does not only help save costs, as illustrated, but it also
helps dramatically shorten the production process for molds and cores.
Entire steps, including expensive tool costs, among other things, can be
eliminated, since only one CAD data set is needed to produce sand molds
   and cores.

Economical production, from prototypes to small Batches

Producing sand molds and cores without tools makes economical production
possible, from individual parts to small batches. Unlike with conventional
production methods, there is almost no limit to the complexity of molds
and cores in 3D printing. After all, the effort involved in 3D printing
does not depend on component complexity.

These factors are particularly apparent in the specific case of
manufacturing a sand core for a turbine wheel. With conventional methods,
the individual core segments of the turbine blades must be laboriously
assembled into a core. With 3D printing, however, the entire turbine core
is produced as a single piece. This significantly shortens the entire
production process, since the step of assembling the core is eliminated.
This means that up to 75% of the costs can be cut in smaller batches.

Time is money | Break even

  Time is Money

Short delivery times and a high degree of flexibility play a crucial role
in meeting a wide range of requirements. But how do we link these two
factors reasonably and, most importantly, economically?

It takes only a few days to produce sand molds and cores with the voxeljet
3D printing process. This saves several weeks of time, compared to
conventional production methods. It also increases flexibility in many
respects. First of all, there is no need to worry about undercuts or draft
   angles.

In addition, necessary casting devices such as the deadhead system can be
built right into the molding box and printed. Changes to the component can
also be made quickly and easily. The goal is to significantly reduce the
amount of time and money involved in producing the mold and core and to
easily implement complex geometries. 3D printing and conventional
manufacturing can also be combined at will.

From printed core to finished cast part

   1. 3D Printing Sand molds and cores of any complexity are produced in a
layering process. A recoater distributes the particulate material in a
very thin layer over the entire build space. A print head then selectively
applies binder to the areas where the component will be produced later on.
These two steps continue to be repeated until the entire component has
been built. The loose particulate material is subsequently removed from
the component, which is then post-processed.

   2. Blacking Like with classic sand casting, the printed core is also
provided with a black wash in the foundry so that it can withstand the
   high thermal loads.

   3. Mounting the core The 3D-printed sand core is subsequently inserted
into a conventionally produced mold. Conventional production methods and
3D printing can generally be combined at will.

   4. Casting The turbine wheel is now cast. All common alloys can be cast
with the 3D-printed molds and/or cores. Different sand granulations can be
used to influence the surface quality.

   5. Removing the core Like with conventional production methods, 3D
printing of sand molds and cores is a lost-mold casting method.

   6. Post-processing The component is post-processed after it is removed
from the mold. The amount of post-processing work required is reduced by
the 3D printing process, since cast parts are already more accurate. This
is due to the fact that even complex geometries with undercuts can be
   printed as a single piece.

   3D printing Conventional pattern making
   QUANTITY 5 DAYS 21 DAYS    4-6 WEEKS
   1 898 € 410 € 3,600 €
   5 3,080 € 1,428 € 3,684 €
   10 5,490 € 2,525 € 3,789 €
   50 22,275 € 10,300 € 4,628 €

Benefits of 3D printing at a glance

voxeljet helps restore power in Ethiopia

A defective turbine wheel meant that a small hospital in Ethiopia was no
longer able to maintain its own power supply. The turbine wheel was a
single piece, so that producing it conventionally would have been a very
expensive and laborious undertaking. The production work would also have
taken several months to complete, which was not an option for the
hospital. As part of a social project, a number of technology companies
were able to restore the power supply within a short period of time. With
its 3D printing technology, voxeljet delivered the sand core for the
turbine rotor, which was produced as a single piece in just a few days.
The power supply could therefore be secured very economically in a short
period of time, due to voxeljet's innovative 3D printing technology.

Amazone tests new production processes with the design freedom of 3D printing

Agricultural machinery manufacturer Amazone uses simulation software by Altair
and 3D printing from voxeljet to optimise a bogey chassis.

Innovation project: The German agricultural machinery manufacturer Amazone
was able to save 18 percent in weight when producing a prototype for a new
bogey chassis. The family business from Hasbergen, near Osnabrück in
Germany, were able to quickly print the sand-casting moulds and cores for
the cast metal with the world’s largest industrial 3D printer for
sand-casting moulds, the VX4000 – without any expensive special tools and
   using just a CAD file.

Old welded bogey chasis (left) and the two new designs for the cast
component in comparison (centre and right): By means of 3D printing, the
version on the right is 45 kilograms lighter than the original and also
   272 procent more durable.

There is unrelenting progress in the evolution of harrows, which farmers
drag along the ground with a tractor to break up the soil and prepare it
for sowing seeds. Manufacturers are constantly striving to make the
equipment more stable, durable and also lighter in order to, for example,
adhere to the permitted axle loads when driving on the road. Among them is
Amazone, a family business from Hasbergen, near Osnabrück in Germany,
which produces the Catros compact disc harrow with a bogey chassis. This
is a towed device which is fixed to a tractor and can be used in different
configurations. The compact disc harrow is used for shallow and intensive
soil cultivation for a working depth of up to 15 centimetres.

Engineers from Altair use CAD software to design the new bogey
chassis that are optimised in terms of topology, and to make calculations
   based on different loads.

The CAD software creates a cast design according to a lightweight construction

The bogey chassis connects the device to the axle to enable the device to
be transported from the farm to the field. The original welded
construction had a weight of 245 kilograms and a welding seam length of
16.5 metres, making it very complex and production-intensive. In order to
reduce costs and make the component more stable and lighter, Amazone
decided to replace the bogey chassis with a cast component. Using the
topology optimisation software “Inspire” by Altair, the Amazone
development team was able to create a design that was suitable for the
load and could also be cast.

The CAD software is used to create the casting mold, which is made
from a total of just four parts.

Considerably lighter, more stable and more durable

Due to the materials being distributed in a manner suitable for the amount
of force, the cast bogey chassis is over 45 kilograms lighter than the
welded component. With this saving in weight, the shape is reminiscent of
tree structure or bird bones. At the same time, the new design ensures a
272 percent longer service life, because the design avoids the variations
in rigidity in the cast component compared to the welding component. In
order to guarantee the material quality, the experts at Altair have also
simulated the flow of metal during the casting process with the Inspire
software. In this way, they were able to reduce the risk of internal
defects caused by trapped gases before the actual casting process, and
therefore optimise the quality of cast parts. Sebastian Kluge from Amazone
says: “Thanks to the optimised design of the cast construction which is
suitable for the load, for the third evolution stage of the rear swing
arm, it was possible to increase the service life by 2.5 times whilst also
reducing the weight by approx. 18% compared to the welding component. The
creation of the sand-casting mould using 3D printing makes it possible to
quickly source prototype components and therefore significantly reduce
   development times.

For complex structures: Design freedom and 300 dpi resolution with the 3D
  printer

First of all, voxeljet converted the CAD file of the component into a
negative CAD file to digitally represent the four-part casting mould. The
workers then fed this data into the 3D system. Then the printing began.
Here, a so-called coater spreads the printing material (quartz sand) onto
the construction platform. Then the print head moves over the platform and
binds the grains of sand together with a binding agent – depending on the
geometry of the object in the CAD file. For this, the print head works
with a resolution of 300 dpi. While the construction platform itself
remains static, the coater and print head move their working height
gradually upwards by 300 micrometres until the casting mould is complete.

Once the printing procedure has finished, the workers remove the side
walls of the construction platform that were printed with the component
and remove any misprinted quartz sand. This leaves the casting mould,
which can be used straight away. The foundry (Pro Cast Guss from
Gütersloh) gives the casting mould just one coating – the barrier layer
between sand and metal, which protects the casting mould from thermal
stress. Despite all of this, the shape is lost after the casting – just as
with traditional casting moulds (sand-casting moulds). It is destroyed
after the core of the cast bogey chassis is removed. Thanks to the
previous Click2Cast computer simulation for casting, the cast material
flows perfectly into the original size the first time.

    The build space of a VX4000 is 4000 x 2000 x 1000 mm in size.

  Saving time with 3D printing

Manufacturing casting moulds for such a complex component is generally
time-consuming – partly because complex specialist tools are required. For
this reason, Altair re-thought the options and decided to use the VX4000
by voxeljet – a 3D printing system with an installation space of 4000 x
2000 x 1000 millimetres. “This is the largest industrial 3D printer in the
world for sand-casting moulds”, says Tobias King, Director Marketing &
Application at voxeljet. “Because the complexity of the component does not
affect the cost of the 3D printing, even difficult geometric shapes can be
   created at a low cost.”

                            Pumps and heavy industry

3D printing has been tried and tested in the development departments and
in the procurement of spare parts in the pump business and heavy industry.
The advantages of the technology can be seen mainly in assembly and in
accuracy. Clear benefit of 3D printing: Cores can be joined together or
integrated into top or bottom boxes, which eliminates core prints and core
   offsets, among other things.

A hybrid approach consisting of conventionally produced molds and complex,
3D-printed cores—e.g., impeller cores—is usually the best solution in
order to produce or develop products cost-efficiently. Medium-sized series
of Francis impellers and large-volume impellers are created—they can both
be represented without problems, due to the size and speed of the voxeljet
   3D printing systems.

MAN-Cylinder head

A cylinder head weighing several tonnes was produced at MAN B&W Diesel AG
in Augsburg in record time, confirming the usefulness of the newest mold
   production technologies.

Complex Impeller

Until now, the production of small batches of complex parts using the
investment casting method has been associated with considerable time and
cost requirements. The Schmolz + Bickenbach Guss Gruppe shows that there
   is another way:

Investment casted impeller

As an alternative to the conventional construction the 3D printing is an
excellent choice. By using the layer building method the risks of
multi-core breakage during assembly, rework costs increased by unclean
core segment and impacts on sand casting error are avoided easily

Pump impeller

Sand casting molds from 3D printers give foundries a great many advantages
   – from shorter throughput times to less post-processing work and even
better surface quality of the unfinished cast parts.

                              Reverse engineering

From the pump industry to owners of classic cars—more and more spare parts
are represented without tools by using modern measuring technology
combined with 3D printing. These processes offer clear economical
advantages, since conventional manufacturing of individual parts, in
particular, often takes too long and is too expensive. Measuring arms and
scanning technology are used to first reconstruct a digital copy when no
technical drawings or CAD data is available.

The result is a digital 3D data set, which offers a basis for 3D printing
that is true to the original.

Spare parts can be reproduced quickly and economically by combining
scanning and printing technologies—and valuable classic cars or old
instruments can be repaired with new parts.

Reverse engineering of a six-cylinder Hispano-engine

The engineers of LF lngénierier had a delicate task: the reconstruction of
the aluminum engine block of a 76 years old Hispano Suiza K6.Reverse
engineering breathes life back into a Hispano six-cylinder engine.

GP roadster gear box

voxeljet and the Sicta foundry produced a gearbox for the Imperia GP
Roadster in less than three weeks.

Refit of a Grand Prix legend

The Delage Type S, with its potent 4.5 liter four-cylinder engine, was one
of the most significant race cars of its time. And the same can be said
about its longevity. The four-cylinder engine lasted 100 years before
irreparable engine damage brought about its end.

Reconstructing cylinder heads for Porsche legends

Oftenly special parts like cylinder heads for oltimers are not longer
available. In the event of damage, the only remedy is through customized
parts reconstruction or reverse engineering, and 3-D printing turned out
   to be the cheapest way.

3D printing systems: Materials and advantages

voxeljet offers various materials for additive manufacturing solutions -
in industries from automotive engineering and foundries to design and
entertainment. The printed components, especially in the areas of casting
and moldmaking, both in industry and the arts, have ideal properties for
   series production results.

voxeljet offers a chemical 3D printing process, Powder Binder Jetting,
which uses nozzles to apply a binder. Unlike laser-based systems, this
process is designed for size and speed and helps make you both more
   flexible and more productive.

Significant advantages - both technical and economical:

     • Cost effective: 3D printing often turns out to be the most economical
manufacturing method, depending on the component geometry and size of
       the series.
     • Size advantages: voxeljet has the world's biggest industrial 3D
printers.* This allows you to flexibly produce large individual molds,
a great many small components or a combination of the two.
     • Time savings: voxeljet offers the most powerful 3D printing systems on
the market - they can shorten the component production time by as much
as 75%, compared to classic moldmaking
     • Experience: Since its founding in 1999, voxeljet has gained many years
of experience as a manufacturer of 3D printing systems and is one of
the world's leading suppliers. You benefit from this expertise with
       every voxeljet product.

*Measured on the basis of the contiguous build volume.

From the idea to the finished cast part

voxeljet produces cast parts based on CAD data sets as a service. The
primary benefit: significant time and cost advantages by 3D-printing molds
without tools. At maximum quality, of course.

                                3D printing FAQs

Answers to frequently asked questions about voxeljet 3D printing.

1. Production process and placing an order

How does voxeljet's 3D printing process work?

voxeljet's 3D printing process consists of seven steps:

voxeljet examines the CAD model from an engineering perspective and then
prepares it for 3D printing. After the building platform raises the job
box to its topmost position, the recoater begins applying the selected
particulate material (either plastic or sand) in thin layers onto a build
surface. The standard layer thickness is 150 µm for plastic and 300 µm for
sand. A high resolution print head then selectively prints binder onto the
surface where the parts are to be produced and subsequently bonds this
area. After each layer is applied, the building platform is lowered by the
particular layer thickness. The recoater applies another layer of
particulate material, which is again selectively bonded to the previous
layers. The process keeps repeating until the object's desired build
height is reached. When the printing process is finished, the excess
material is extracted and the component is exposed. In the end, the
printed component can be finished, depending on the application purpose.

What file formats can be used?

Generally speaking, voxeljet processes all common file formats but prefers
   .STL, .STP and .IGS.

What happens to the files?

All files are treated as strictly confidential and are covered by
confidentiality agreements. Before the printing process begins, voxeljet
reviews each 3D model submitted to rule out any errors. If any
irregularities arise, you have the option of either making the corrections
yourself or hiring voxeljet's dedicated team to perform this task. On
request, voxeljet can also create a mold based on a positive.

How can I get a quote?

Send an inquiry with your wishes and requirements (CAD data, material,
quantity, lead time, etc.) to parts@voxeljet.de. Alternatively you can
fill out our online form or contact your consultant directly.

Would you like to receive a quote on our 3D printers? If so, send an email
to systems@voxeljet.de or contact one of our global resellers.

How do you set the prices for components?

The pricing process is based on the following:

     • Component dimensions
     • Component volume (in plastic only)
     • Complexity
     • Type of material
     • Finishing treatment
     • Number of parts ordered
     • Lead time agreed on

If you have any further questions, do not hesitate to contact us at
   parts@voxeljet.de.

How are the parts delivered?

voxeljet has years of experience using the appropriate supports, underlays
and transportation aids and will work closely with you to find the best
way of shipping the parts to their destination. However, should any damage
occur, voxeljet will replace your component quickly and smoothly (if the
transport was arranged by voxeljet). In principle, you can also pick up
   the goods yourself.

Do you ship the components worldwide?

Yes, voxeljet delivers models and molds around the world (sand models only
   by arrangement).

What lead times can I expect and do you offer express shipping?

   The lead times are:

   3 working days*
   5 working days
   10 working days
   21    calendar days

The different price categories, among other things, depend on these lead
   times.

*3-day express shipping is available for sand molds and models by
   arrangement.

2. Areas of application and different types of material

What industry segments use this technology?

voxeljet 3D printers are especially suitable for producing molds and metal
casting models in small series. In addition, they are also used to develop
   prototypes.

Our processes are becoming an increasingly popular choice in the
production of design samples, art and architectural parts as well as spare
   parts and individual pieces.

We would be happy to advise you on your particular application. Send your
   inquiry to parts@voxeljet.de.

What materials are used in 3D printing?

In principle, two types of plastic can be selected.

Polypor B, available as a voxeljet service and for system customers in
Europe, is ideal for parts that are true to detail and which require a
high degree of edge sharpness, resolution and green compact strength
(degree of hardness immediately at the end of the printing process).

Polypor C lends itself to simplified burn-out processes in investment
casting and for all-white architectural models.

The types of sand are chosen individually, depending on the geometry and
application purpose. We use silica sands with different granulations. They
are available in average granulations of 0.14 mm (GS14); 0.19 mm (GS19)
and 0.25 mm (GS25). voxeljet also offers more temperature-resistant
kerphalite sand, which is the material of choice for particularly complex
geometries and inner cores for steel casting.

Investment or sand casting?

   Factors such a:

     • intended application
     • quantity
     • size
     • surface requirements
     • geometry

are basic factors in choosing the right production method. We discuss the
most suitable production process with you when we prepare the quote. In
general sand casting is the preferred method for progressively larger
   sizes and quantities.

What are the advantages of voxeljet's plastic models?

     • Can be treated like wax models
     • High surface quality & resolution
     • Low residual ash content around 0.3 wt% for Polypor B binder and
       around 0.02 wt% for Polypor C binder
     • Minimal expansion during the burn-out process: the ceramic slurries of
       the 3D models remain undamaged
     • Burn-out temperature 700 °C and higher
     • Can be used in

          •  Ceramic casting
          • Gypsum casting
          • Plaster casting
          • Suitable for all common alloys

What are the advantages of sand molds and cores?

     • Suitable for nearly all metals that can be cast using the sand casting
       method.
     • voxeljet has experience with

          • Magnesium
          • Aluminum
          • Iron and steel casting
          • Steel casting
          • Brass casting

     • Due to the relatively low binder content, the cores can be easily
broken out of the mold after casting.
     • As a result less outgassing of the molds is required (more binder =
       higher gas discharge).
     • Flexibility:

          • Hybrid casting—can be combined with molds produced with
            conventional methods
          • The gating can be added manually after 3D printing

3. Model and mold properties

How complex can the components be?

There are almost no limits in terms of geometry. Undercuts can be added
   without problems.

   Limitations:

     • It must be possible to remove excess particulate materials from the
       molds and models.
     • A wall thickness of at least 3 mm in sand and 1 mm in plastic must be
       maintained, depending on the geometry.

Each component is assigned to a certain complexity level. The pricing,
among other things, is based on this complexity.

How precise will my component be after printing?

                     Plastic models Sand models
   Accuracy ± 0.4 % (min. ± layer thickness) ± 0.1 % (min. ± layer thickness)

What model sizes can be implemented?

voxeljet's service center uses the VX4000, one of the world's largest
industrial 3D printers for the production of sand cores and mold packages,
with a build space of 4,000 x 2,000 x 1,000 mm (LxWxH). When it comes to
plastics, voxeljet offers models with maximum dimensions of 1,000 x 600 x
500 mm (LxWxH). At the same time, molds of any size can be created with
the use of individual mold divisions.

What types of finishing treatment options are there?

In the case of sand, you can select between raw material (common), epoxy
resin infiltration and PU dispersion. Infiltration makes the component
more stable, but it can then no longer be cast. PU dispersion is a special
undercoat for the component, which makes it easier to paint the part later
   on.

In the case of plastic, components can be infiltrated with wax (for
investment casting models) or epoxy resin (for design or exhibition
models). It is not possible to print pigmented models; however, colors can
   be applied manually after printing.

  Properties of plastic

     • Ideal for producing investment casting models, thanks to the optimum
burnout properties of the PMMA particulate material
     • Can also be used as prototypes, design patterns, museum exhibits or
       film props
     • High print resolution and detail accuracy
     • Economical production in batch sizes of 1 as well as in small series
       production

  Benefits of 3D-printing plastic models:

     • Economical production: investment casting models are printed "without
tools" and without producing complex and expensive models
     • Large-format printing: Molds can be produced on a building platform
       measuring 1,000 x 600 x 500 mm (LxWxH)
     • Complex components: Nearly unlimited geometries.
     • True-to-detail models due to a layer thickness of 150 µm and a print
resolution of up to 600 dpi
     • High size accuracy: No danger of heat distortion - even in large 3D
models - due to a printing process that takes place at room
       temperature
     • Ideal investment casting handling due to wax infiltration just like
       conventional wax models
     • Low residual ash content
     • No shell breakage due to negative thermal expansion coefficients
     • Surface finishing: wax infiltration for smoother investment-cast parts
or epoxy resin to increase strength in display models

Sand casting molds - rapid and economical

3D printers from voxeljet can be used for the time- and cost-efficient
production of sand molds and cores for metal casting. The molds are
produced by applying a particle material in layers and selectively bonding
it with a binder. Silica sand is used as the particulate material.

  Properties of sand

     • Ideal for prototype manufacturing and tool optimization: For example,
you can use 3D printing to quickly, flexibly and economically develop
       and optimize tools.
     • Uses common foundry materials: silica sand and furan/phenol resin with
       series-comparable molding and casting properties.
     • Molds can be used immediately: no pretreatment necessary.
     • Easy core removal: Due to the low binder content (for 3D printing),
the outgassing and core removal behavior is comparable to that of
       traditional processes
     • Excellent bending strength
     • The applied, unprinted sand is nearly 100% recyclable (PDB process)
     • Suitable for sand casting of all castable materials, such as aluminum,
brass, magnesium, iron and steel casting as well as all common alloys

Benefits of 3D-printing sand molds and cores:

     • Economical production: Complex sand molds and cores are manufactured
additively without complex and expensive tool production
     • Large-format printing: Molds can be produced on building platforms up
       to 4,000 x 2,000 x 1,000 mm (LxWxH)
     • Complex components: Nearly unlimited geometries, undercuts can be
       implemented
     • Precise sand molds and cores with a high surface quality
     • Combinations are possible: 3D-printed cores can be combined with
traditional sand molds and vice versa.
     • Our service centers can deliver molds and cores with furan binder; our
printing systems are available with a phenol binder process

3D printing saves up to 75% in sand casting costs

3D printing brings time and cost saving advantages when compared to
conventional manufacturing. In direct comparison to conventional
production, 3D printing illustrates a clear cost profit. When the
production in conventional production lies at around 3.600 €, the
production with 3D printing can be reduced to 900 €.

Highly complex water jacket core

A sand-cast water jacket core is a challenge when it comes to building the
core structure. The complex geometry and delicate elements are not a
problem for 3D printing, with its usually unlimited freedom of geometry
   and precision.

               VX4000 - the world's biggest industrial 3D printer

The VX4000 is the world's biggest industrial 3D printing system for sand
   molds. It has a cohesive build space measuring 4,000 x 2,000 x 1,000 mm

individual molds, a great many small series components or a combination of
the two. With its uniquely large volume, the VX4000 maximizes productivity
   and flexibility.

The unique and patented layering process was specially adapted for this
printer. Instead of lowering the building platform during the printing
process, the print head and coater are raised with each layer. As a
result, the machine can bear the enormous weight of the building platform,
which can be quickly exchanged via a rail—making it possible to print
nearly continuously. Sand can be used as the particulate material. The
VX4000's print head system can achieve a resolution of up to 300 dpi. A
