   sandguss
   sandguss
With fast manufacturing of prototypes and small series, we offer you the
possibility to shorten your development process.

The precision casting process is suitable for the production of metal
prototypes with a similar quality like die cast components or as well for
thin-walled components. For the manufacturing of ceramic casting molds,
lost models made from polystyrene by lasersintering are used. For higher
quantities or clearly defined surfaces, wax patterns of model equipment
   can be used.

Another core competence of our company is the design and manufacturing of
model equipment for sand casting. Raw components are produced by longtime
partner companies. We would be pleased to assume the needed mechanical
   processing for you.

The vision of 3D printing: additive manufacturing at citim

For more than ten years, citim has been working with additive
manufacturing technology. In other words, for citim it is not just a
vision but a mastered technology. The company's years of experience, close
cooperation with innovative machinery manufacturers and large plant makes
citim one of the leading providers of components produced using additive
   manufacturing.

The technology of additive manufacturing

As the name suggests, AM is an additive process. Components are created
layer by layer from a fine powder. Unlike forming processes, no tooling is
required. In the case of additive manufacturing, the parts are produced
more or less directly using the 3D CAD construction data.

Additive manufacturing is also frequently referred to as 3D printing based
on the idea that the fine powder is added in thin layers similarly to the
   ink in a printer.
Shaping visions means mastering all the technologies required.

                     Additive Manufacturing Laser sintering

   lasersintern-653-232.jpg
   lasersintern-263-232.jpg
Laser sintering is known for economic rapid manufacture of optionally
shaped parts within shortest time - independent of the complexity of their
shape and geometry. The component is built up in layers in a powder bed by
means of a laser jet. The jet passes over the contour of the layer to be
built up, melts the powder and consolidates it.

Components are made from polyamide (filled / non-filled)and polystyrene.

Laser sintering parts can be sealed against most media by subsequent
infiltration with epoxy resin. So the parts can be used in the engine bay
   for example.

In addition the parts can be finished with vibratory grinding. This allows
the improvement of the component surface. It is possible to colour the
   parts.

material properties are characterized by the following:

     • good surface quality and level of detail
     • very good thermal resilience
     • high stiffness
     • low specific electrical resistance and low surface resistivity

   APPLICATION
Typical application areas for PA12-CF components are final products for
the automotive industry or functional parts in the field of prototypes and
small batch series if particularly high stiffness and thermoforming
resistance is required. The material is also very well suited for parts
that need to be antistatic. Therefore, it is particularly suited for air
elements and components that get in contact with highly inflammable
substances. Compared to the standard material, PA12-CF has a comparably
low thermal expansion coefficient (four times lower). Due to these
characteristics, this material is very well suited for engine components
where temperatures are usually around 100°C. Even under these conditions,
PA12-CF still proves to have a good thermal resilience.

Shaping visions means following them from the idea to series production.

                                    Portrait

As manufacturing service provider for over 20 years, citim GmbH is
specialized in rapid prototyping, additive manufacturing as well as small
series production. The whole production chain is covered: from part
   conception to assembly completion.

Founded in 1996 as a spin-off of Otto von Guericke university Magdeburg,
the company first focused on prototype tooling. During the following years
the company’s portfolio was continuously enlarged with new technologies.
Beside the laser sintering technology introduced in 2004, in 2009
implemented laser melting presented another milestone.

By now including 17 up-to-date machines operating in Germany and at the
second company’s site in Kennesaw (USA), citim is the leading supplier for
additively manufactured metal parts. Various industries like automotive,
motor sports, aerospace and the consumer goods industry benefit from our
   manufacturing experience.

After the completion of the new building in June 2016, the production and
work of citim take place on an area of more than 7,000 square meters.

Since January 2017 citim is part of the Oerlikon Group to drive the
industrialization of additive manufacturing. The Oerlikon Group is a
leading global technology Group with the clear strategy of becoming a
global powerhouse in surface solutions, advanced materials, and materials
processing. The Group is committed to investing in value-adding
technologies that provide customers with lighter, more durable materials
that are able to increase performance, improve efficiency, and reduce the
use of scarce resources. As a Swiss company with more than 100 years of
tradition, Oerlikon has a global footprint with over 13.500 employees at
more than 170 locations in 37 countries. The company has over 1.350
specialists developing innovative and customer-oriented products and
   services.

When you need resilient and flexible parts

                               Elastic components

   hochleistungssilikon
   hochleistungssilikon
We manufacture elastic components (e.g. hoses, seals, bellows) with a
multiplicity of procedures, which are accurately tailored to particular
   needs of the customer.

For first parts and small quantities components can be provided by
generative production technologies (laser sintering, PolyJet) very fast.

Via casting processes (vacuum casting, silicone casting) functional
components are provided. Silicone forms and/or generatively manufactured
tools are used. So components can be manufactured at short notice with a
   very good cost-performance ratio.

If series-identical materials are needed, elastomer components produced by
applying prototyping tools can be offered (based on rapid tooling

Shaping visions means having expertise which does not belong to the
   component.

                                Working at citim

WORKING AT CITIM MEANS…

     • to work in an future-orientated and growing sector together with more
       than 100 colleagues
     • to experience how modern technological know-how (3D-printing/additive
manufacturing) and traditional manufacturing processes (tool making,
casting) are combined within one company
     • to manufacture components for customers in exciting sectors like
automobile industry, motor sport, aerospace and many more
     • to act in an international environment (worldwide customers, second
company’s side in the USA, international trade fair presences)
     • to escape the morning search for parking spaces by instead working in
conveniently located Barleben (directly beside motorway A2) with view
       to nature
     • to have a workplace at a spacious and architecturally interesting new
       company building

WE AT CITIM ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO …

     • colleagues with a good technical understanding and a curiosity to
       discover new technologies
     • colleagues who are able to work in a structured and diligent manner
     • colleagues who regard – just as we do – customer satisfaction as the
       heart of our business
     • colleagues who appreciate a familial working atmosphere with flat
       hierarchies and pioneering spirit
     • colleagues who like to further educate themselves and use company
       options, like English courses
     • colleagues who would like to create and enjoy unforgettable company
events, like the annual New Year celebration or sport activities

                        Die wichtigste citim-Regel: (I)

                        Die wichtigste citim-Regel: (I)

Visions don't become reality in just one day

citim accompanies you through every stage of the development process

A product evolves at every stage of the development process. Each stage
brings new insights, while at the same time placing different demands on
   the components.
At citim, you get the right component at every stage of the development
process, from the initial idea to series production. From the first dummy
prototype to a small run of off-tool parts. In metal, plastic or
   elastomer.

Only developers know how it feels to hold

their construction in their hands for the first time.

There are many reasons to make an initial prototype: for a trial
installation, as a trade show exhibit, as a look-and-feel model or to
   explore a principle.
citim has every technology available to produce your models – including,
of course, the right measuring equipment, with everything ready “by
   yesterday”.

                             Form follows function

Prototypes are not only used to check a construction's dimensions: they
also serve to verify a development's function.
citim provides you with the technology to manufacture components from the
same or similar materials as used in series production so that you can
really “put your prototypes to the test”.

                               Production launch

Whether you are starting series production and the tooling required is not
yet ready; whether you are carrying out a field test and require a large
number of components, or whether you have a series with small- or
micro-scale batches (e.g. for exotic or luxury vehicles), our in-company
tool-making department creates batch production tools for small- and
micro-scale production. These parts are also produced on-site at citim,
   even throughout the parts' lifecycle.

The most important citim rule: (I)

Quality does not come at the press of a button

Without up-to-date machines – especially in the case of fast-developing
manufacturing processes such as SLM –modern prototyping and additive
manufacturing would be impossible. But without parametrization,
individually adapted to the materials, high-quality components meeting the
demands of high-tech developers would still not be possible. That is why
the most important core competence at citim is developing and constantly
   modifying machine parameters.

The most important citim rule: (II)

Quality does not come at the press of a button

citim has specially designed software to capture and archive operating
data; this is used to record what has been learned and tested as a
repository of experience. At the company's own materials laboratory,
new-generation materials are regularly tested and suitable processing
parameters determined. This treasure trove of experience is also
appreciated by machine manufacturers, with which citim is in extremely
close contact, and which frequently send in new developments to be tested,
or as a launch customer. At citim it is a matter of course to provide the
latest machines and access to the latest technology.

                          Metal Additive Manufacturing

   laserschmelze-653-232.jpg
   laserschmelze-263-232.jpg

Thanks to Selective Laser Melting (SLM) complex components and shapes can
be built from powdered raw material within the shortest possible time.

Additively manufactured metal components can be used without any
restrictions. Compared to conventionally manufactured components e.g.,
cast components, their material properties are equal in every way. Due to
additive manufacturing advantages like negligible micro-porosity and
freedom from shrink holes are generated.

Components manufactured by laser melting can be welded and reworked with
all usual processing methods. By means of a heat treatment a specific
adjustment of the mechanical characteristics is possible.

Selective laser melting enables a greater leeway for the components design
because no limitations are defined by required tools. Tool-free additive
manufacturing is perfectly suited for the production of metal components
with a complex geometry e.g., tool inserts from hot work steel with
conformal cooling for casting and injection molding tools or components
   for the motor sport sector.

Materials

  Aluminum AlSi9Cu3

   PROPERTY
The primary properties, which make AlSi9Cu3 suitable and economical, are:
high thermal conductivity and good strength with good chemical resistance.
These properties are achieved due to the particular chemical composition.

The high copper content gives the alloy good high-temperature strength,
and therefore AlSi9Cu3 is preferably used in engine and gear
manufacturing. Compared with the eutectic composition the Si content has
been reduced which also improves the machining properties.

The combination of Si and Cu ensure the high mechanical strength.
Furthermore the low levels of Mg and Cu result in an increase in strength
and enable the curing of this alloy.

   APPLICATION
Typical applications include complex machine and engine parts, e. g.
manufacturing of crankshafts and transmission housings, engine blocks,
engine parts and cylinders, as well as cylinder heads.

  Aluminum AlSi7Mg

  Aluminum AlSi10Mg

   PROPERTY
The production of these components is done by Selective Laser Melting. The
components show a homogeneous and almost pore-free structure. The material
is characterized by a very high stability, high hardness, and an excellent
dynamic strength. Due to the high cooling rates during the construction
process, the mechanical properties of the manufactured components are
better than in the corresponding casting process.

   APPLICATION
The material is ideal for applications requiring a combination of good
mechanical properties and low weight. The components can be heat-treated,
machined, eroded, welded, micro-blasted, polished, and coated.

   Heat Treatment
It is possible to modify the mechanical properties of the manufactured
components by applying T6 heat treatment. The elongation of the components
will be improved. Further, the anisotropic properties are reduced as
   result of the layered structure.

  Aluminum AlSi12CuNiMg

  Aluminum - Scalmalloy®RP AlMgSc

   Properties
Scalmalloy®RP (AlMgSc) is an aluminum lightweight alloy specifically
designed for aerospace. Due to the addition of magnesium, scandium and
zirconium it possesses significantly improved strength properties compared
   to conventional casting alloys.

   Applications
Due to its very high achieved strength and low density Scalmalloy®RP is
particularly suited for the following applications:
   - Motorsport
   - Automotive Technology
   - High Performance applications for aerospace industry e.g., aircraft
   construction
   - Special engineering

The specific strength of this material, this means the relation of
strength to density, is comparable with titanium. At the same time, a high
toughness is achieved which is particularly advantageous for
safety-critical applications. By means of a precipitation hardening out of
a supersaturated solution of Al3Sc(+Zr)-phase, a considerably higher
strength of the components is achieved. In comparison to laser melted and
T6-heat-treated components made from the aluminum alloy AlSi10Mg the yield
point Rp0,2 increases by more than twice. Furthermore, this alloy features
an excellent weldability and an exceptional high corrosion resistance.

  Cobalt Chrome CoCr

   PROPERTIES
The cobalt-chromium-molybdenum alloy (CoCrMo) is a so called super alloy
for high temperature applications. It combines extreme high temperature
   resistance with high corrosion resistance.
The CoCrMo superalloy is characterized by very good mechanical properties,
the stability of which is ensured even at high temperatures.
Components from CoCrMo are ideal for applications that are subjected to a
combination of thermal, mechanical and corrosive stress. CoCrMo alloys are
used, among other things, for highly stressed components, such as
components for aircraft engines and components for engine construction.
Through the heat treatment "solution annealing", the breaking elongation
   can be increased.

   APPLICATIONS
   - High-load components, e.g. aircraft propulsion and engine construction
   - High-temperature applications [500°C-1000°C] in mechanical engineering,
   e.g. turbines
   - Functional prototypes

  Stainless Steel 316L

   PROPERTIES
This steel 1.4404 (316L), also known as V4A, belongs to the group of the
stainless steels. It is a fully austenitic, corrosion resistant
   chromium-nickel-molybdenum steel.
The molybdenum gives the material a better corrosion resistance than
molybdenumfree chromium-nickel steels. The very low carbon content also
improves resistance to inter-granular corrosion and weldability. Heat
treatment after welding is normally not neces-sary.
Especially the material 1.4404 (316L) is less susceptible against pitting

   nylon-653-232.jpg
   nylon-263-232.jpg
Basis is a generatively manufactured master model, which is being used to
receive a silicone mold. This silicone mold is being filled the
polyurethane casting resin. Approximately 25 to 30 parts can be produced
from one silicone form, depending on the component geometry.

A variety of materials is available. So the employment requirements of the
prototype can be realised very exactly by the selection of an appropriate
   casting resin.

  Polyurethane Casting Resins - Silicone

   PROPERTIES
Producing prototypes and small batch series using vacuum casting offers a
wide range of available materials. Polyurethane casting resins are used
when elastomer, solid, or filled serial materials are needed. Elastomer
components that are exposed to high temperatures and different materials
are made of silicones. Moreover, components can be casted in almost every
color due to an addition of pigments. The manufacturing of transparent and
   translucent components is also possible.

   APPLICATION
Vacuum casting allows the production of parts that are shape and
dimensional accurate and complicated, for instance having undercuts,
openings, thin ridges. Typical examples of elastic components made of
polyurethane or silicone are gaskets, hoses, bellows, and any other
elastomer molded components. Even multi-component parts can be realized
   applying this technology.

3D-Scanning

With the use of this optical measuring technique, it is possible to
produce extremely precise surface data in stl format in the shortest
possible time. Using these generated data and using the existing CAD data
set, a target-actual comparison can be carried out. This makes it possible
for us to quickly make statements on the dimensional accuracy of a
finished component and to meet the required customer requirements. This
technology is also used for spare parts production, however, when
components, but no 3D data are available. By digitizing the components and
transferring them into volume data, a reproduction of components can be
   realized as spare parts.

3D- Measurement

Inlet, intermediate and final tests of components are carried out on the
coordinate measuring machine (KMG) Spectrum by Zeiss. This measuring
   device is equipped with high-sensitivity push-buttons (TP200) and a
locking swivel joint (RDS). This equipment, in conjunction with the
Calypso measuring software, allows us to achieve accurate and accurate
measuring results quickly and flexibly with constantly changing component
   geometry.

Test laboratory

Consistent quality can only be ensured by monitoring the production
processes. In order to guarantee the high quality requirements of our
customers, the additive manufacturing process of metal components is
monitored in our own laboratory. The measures range from the incoming
goods control of all powder batches to the control of the production
process by means of tensile and ground specimens in order to determine the
mechanical characteristic values and to carry out the pore and density
   analyzes.

   Shaping visions faster

                               Rapid Prototyping

   rapid-prototyping-653x323.jpg
   rapid-prtotyping-263x323.jpg

Rapid prototyping means shaping visions faster

At citim, our aim is to make your visions tangible. We do this by
supporting you with the right components at every stage of the development
process. And as innovation cycles are shrinking in length, and time to
market increasingly determining an innovation's success, we take the word
“rapid” in “rapid prototyping” seriously and shape your visions at top
   speed.

We take the word “prototyping” somewhat less literally: citim produces
more than just prototypes, offering you the right parts from the first 3D
dummy to a small run of parts, on to the start of series production and
   even throughout the product lifecycle.
Shaping visions means mastering all the technologies required.

   Visions sometimes require a mold

                                 Rapid Tooling

Shaping visions (sometimes) requires a mold

Many rapid prototyping technologies provided by citim, such as additive
manufacturing, do without a mold. Nonetheless, there are still some
conditions in which it makes sense to create a mold, for example when
large runs are to be produced for field trials or larger-scale tests. And
sometimes a mold is needed for technological reasons, such as for casting.

For this reason, citim has its own in-company moldmaking unit. From
manufacturing a simple silicone mold to building aluminum injection molds,
citim has the experience and the machinery for its own moldmaking. You
benefit from this by yet more "rapid" manufacturing: projects take less
   time and workflows are smoother.
Shaping visions means mastering all the technologies required.
