                   Site-selecting for medium-sized companies

Medium-sized companies rely on ifp consulting when selecting a site

ifp consulting currently assists two independent medium-sized companies of
the construction supplier industry in selecting a suitable site. In
addition to the long-lasting experience in production and logistics
planning, two innovative tools are being employed: The ifp Regional
Database and the industry solution IBM LogicNet Plus.

The tasks are challenging: In one case, a new distribution centre in
Germany is sought, in the other case, a highly economic production site in
Eastern Europe – both cases set high requirements for delivery times and
   reliability.

For the site selection in Eastern Europe, the ifp Regional Database helps
in efficiently preselecting the solution space. At the same time, the
local partner network in the target areas provide the necessary knowledge
about customs of country and people. The methodology of ifp consulting is
individually aligned with the requirements of the customer – ideal for
   medium-sized companies.

The approach for determining the site of the distribution centre follows
the same idea: pragmatic, successful and smart. The site selection is
carried out using IBM LogicNet Plus. This way, several thousand delivery
addresses in Germany and neighbouring countries can be considered – no
matter if dedicated, single-tier or two-tier customer supply.

If you want to know more about how ifp consulting can assist your company
with questions around the selection of a suitable site, then get in
   contact with us now.

11% cost cut with new distribution strategy

ifp consulting develops intelligent distribution strategy for building
    supply retailer

Companies need to offer higher service level and constantly cut costs in
order to stand up to the competition. In this process, intelligent design
of the distribution network plays a vital role.

The building supply industry is characterized by a complex and costly
distribution and thus needs intelligent network design. The sales
organization usually involves a large number of retailers and orders are
often directly delivered to the construction site. Hence, distribution
costs can account for 10-20% of the total sales price.

Our client is a large player in the market with over 5.000 retailers
across Central Europe. The company currently operates two distribution
centres and a fleet of over 140 trucks to be able to offer multiple
deliveries per week, accounting for over 25 million Euro in total costs.

The new distribution strategy saves the client around 3 million Euro
    annually

The new distribution strategy developed by the supply chain experts at ifp
consulting generates 3 million Euro in savings per annum. The strategy
implements a new delivery concept, which comprises of three distribution
   centres and optimized delivery areas.

In order to determine the perfect location for the new distribution
centres, transportation as well as personnel costs were factored into the
solution. Additionally, the daily connections between the five production
sites were also incorporated into the schedule.

The new distribution strategy was specifically tailored to the needs of
our client. A major prerequisite was that the implementation could be
carried out with the existing staff in order to fully utilize its
   experience.

    Supply chain excellence by design

ifp consulting is a leading consultancy in intelligent supply chain design
for medium and large sized companies. With the expertise of over 30 years
and state of the art methods and tools, we develop sustainable solutions
   that work.

                           Flexible assembly concept

ifp consulting developed a flexible, future-oriented and detailed assembly
concept for a drive manufacturer. In the first project phase ifp
consulting designed an assembly concept for a well-established and
continuously growing manufacturer of door drives with a high variety in
its product portfolio. Based on the assembly concept, a new production
hall with an assembly line was planned in detailed.

Focal points during the concept phase

     • Recording and analysis of the current assembly processes as well as
       supporting processes
     • Analysis of all data relevant for the assembly process, e.g.
product-based bill of materials, assembly instructions, production
       volumes, setup and lead times
     • Examination of the infrastructural possibilities to realize the
       project
     • Development of several block layout variants and submission of a
       substantiated recommendation

Typical questions during the detailed planning phase

     • Which explicit product types are to be manufactured in which number
and which production depth in the new production hall and which
product types remain in the existing facilities.
     • How is the material supplied?
     • Which overall capacity results from the new setup with two assembly
       halls?
     • How much personnel and equipment is required?
     • How is the logistical link between the two halls and their respective
       assembly lines?
     • How can future increases in the production volume be realized and how
can the assembly be designed so that it meets future requirements?
     • How can a flexibility regarding fluctuations in the production volume
of individual product types be assured?
     • What does the detailed assembly and hall layout look like?

   Digital tools and methods

   digital tools for production simulation

Outstanding digital tools & methods

   small step.

ifp consulting has been working for more than 20 years with up to the
minute software tools and systemic methods of delivering the best possible

supported by continuously updated methods such as procedures, checklists,
systematic data analyses, the use of up-to-the-minute algorithms etc.

Using our outstanding digital tools, we can show you simply, quickly and
cost-effectively how you can maximise your process potential. This
   includes for example:

     • Simulation-assisted process creation using dynamic cycle simulation

     • Digital factory planning with 3D display using facility planning

Benchmarks and cost databases

   benchmarks and cost databases

From procurement through to shipping, from planning through to production,
from order entry through to delivery, we have a large number of benchmarks
and cost databases from a very wide range of sectors and similar projects
at our fingertips for the generation of reliable comparative values.

   Typical questions are:

     • Compared to other companies in similar branches what is the correct
       number of employees?

     • What is the area useage in similar productions?

     • What are common OEE values?
     • What is the effort regarding material flow in other factories?
     • What about the "normal" stock range?

                          Process and factory planning
                         efficient and highly focussed

Without detailed planning, investment in new processes or factories will
quickly become a waste of money. Here you should leave nothing to chance,
but rather trust in professional consultancy. ifp consulting has the
skills, the experience and the methods for efficient, highly focussed
   planning.

With our "digital factory" we are able to show you now how you can make
   your investment pay in future.

   Master planning and Factory planning

rebuilding costs as well as systematically process mapping and
   optimisation in all company divisions.

   Warehouse and logistics planning

Warehouse & logistics planning

   warehouse planning

Crucial groundwork decisions are made in warehouse and logistics planning.
Because it is associated with high levels of investment and complex
functions, planning should be well in advance and supported by all the
information needed for making the right decision. We will help you to
develop the optimum technical and most practical economic solution – to
enable you to face even major future market changes without major
   reorganisation work on your part.

We support you during following task:

   production simulation

Shaping tomorrow's processes with digital simulation studies

Using simulations, we are able to test and evaluate various processes.
Potential bottlenecks are eliminated at the planning stage and
opportunities are fully exploited. Our digital factory simulations are so
close to reality that you will be able to follow processes in detail and
thereby implement them quickly and efficiently.

With the help of the simulation tool we can find out following results:

     • Detailled capacity calculation

   Tendering process

   tendering process

Tendering process

We have extensive long-term experience in calls for tender and tender
preparation. Take advantage of our tried and tested repertoire of methods.
With our help, preparing comprehensive tender documentation and organising
the selection of potential partners will become child’s play.

   Technical - Due diligence

   technical due diligence of factories

Technical due diligence

Are you considering purchasing a factory or a manufacturing network? Do
you need a detailed technical status evaluation report before reaching a
decision? We are the right people to help you: In the context of a
technical due diligence, ifp consulting undertakes a comprehensive,
standardised and efficient analysis of the property concerned.

We will discover the answers to all the important questions that have to
be assessed neutrally and expertly before the purchase of any property.

     • What production capacity can be expected?

     • What is the technical condition of the systems and machines?

     • Where can automation concepts be applied in future?

     • What level of quality will be achieved?

     • Could production be expanded?

   Project management

project management - turning production projects into practice

Project management

We turn projects into practice on site at your premises!

Building new factories, reducing production costs, carrying out
optimisation measures or relocating production in its entirety –
experienced employees make their plans on the shop floor, on time and on
budget. Skilful project management supports this as well as appropriate
tools and methods, but also the necessary measure of pragmatism and
systematic determination to transform a concept into reality. Throughout
this process, we ensure technical application, negotiation and acceptance
by the various professions, and adherence to specific schedules, control
of resources and the processing of “outstanding issues” in the project as
   a whole.

   Ramp-up management

start-up of factories, warehouses and production areas

Ramp-up management

We will support you in the start-up of factories, warehouses and
production areas or with the launch of new products. Our highly
experienced employees will plan the start-up in advance and reduce typical
risks in a ramp-up phase. In the launch phase itself, staff will work
around the clock to ensure that operations are scaled up smoothly, and
optimise production or logistics as quickly as possible.

   Production systems

Production systems

   comprehensive production systems

In a consistent production system, the industrial production subsystems –
from production planning through to dispatch of the products – are
perfectly synchronised. We will provide you with comprehensive support in
regards of development and realisation of modern production systems with
the targets: reduction of costs, increased productivity and improved
   competitiveness.

   Operating excellence

   efficient operations management

Operating excellence

We offer comprehensive optimisation programmes for your business, with all
processes aligned to client needs, quality and efficiency focussing on
rapid solutions to the causes of problems. To the forefront is a
perfectly-coordinated interplay of quality management, lean management,
process management, leadership prioritising leadership excellence,
teamwork, multi project and improvement management, communication and
   motivation.

With our experience and professional methods, we can support you on your
   journey to operations excellence!

ERP/Production control

We will help you devise optimisation strategies for production planning
and control. With the help of special control strategies, we synchronize
and streamline your production processes. Where needed, we create
customised software tools to communicate directly with your existing
   systems.

System availability / Shop floor management

   system availability and shopfloor management

System availability/Shop floor management

Shop floor management is the precondition for the implementation of lean
processes. In the first phase, we analyse the initial situation and future
challenges for your machine pool. In a second phase, it is subjected to an
extensive weaknesses analysis. Using appropriate key performance
indicators and a detailed OEE analysis, we ensure transparent system
availability. Using suitable methods (e.g. TPM, SMED, etc.), we can
increase the availability of your machines based on a realisation
   planning.

   sense?

When assessing established processes, the independent perspective brought
by our experienced specialists is enormously important. Outstanding
digital tools provide a reliable aid to finding smart solutions in every
business to optimise the supply chain.

This is why we adapt our tried and tested procedure to the needs of your
company and find differentiated solutions for your questions. Our ifp
regional data bank supplies us with extensive regional data and
information that we can use to facilitate your decision process. We also
have partners on site that give us the local information needed, and our
knowledge from three decades of factory and logistics planning will ensure
that your business case is absolutely bullet-proof.

The perfect strategy for your distribution

The right distribution strategy – so that clients and the company account profit
from it

Your clients demand a lot when it comes to delivery. The level of service
has become one of the most distinguishing features of many companies. At
the same time, your controlling department requires you to lower your
distribution costs according to your revenue. Moreover, management wants
to be capable of flexibly reacting to changing market conditions.

The right location strategy can help you in ways from which both clients
and the company account profit. But how many distribution sites are
necessary, where should they be located and which clients should be
delivered to from which site? And how should that one special product be
   handled?

ifp consulting will develop a detailed site strategy for you. Our
procedure is individually adjusted to your specific needs – in our typical
   medium-sized company manner.

With IBM LogicNet Plus©, we have the perfect tool to model and optimize
even the most complex of distribution systems.

Intelligent networks for procurement, production and distribution

Market success requires an efficient production and logistics network

The more products a company manufactures, the more its decisions become
complex. Where should which products be manufactured? Where should which
net product steps be implemented? How could transitional phases be
optimized? Should distribution take place on a single- or multi-stage
level? How could transports be efficiently organised?

ifp consulting will help you make the right decisions for your value
network. We examine all relevant processes and investments and integrate
them in an extensive model of your network. Together, we will evaluate
several options and develop a suitable implementation plan.

The result: Unused potential will be activated, costs will be lowered and
your delivery reliability will increase! If you wish, we will also help
   you with the implementation itself.

Increase Service Level and customer loyalty

Successful companies can secure their customers’ loyalty by offering additional
benefits

When it comes to distribution, the ability to deliver quickly is crucial.
Also within your own supply chain, a high level of service is fundamental
to be able to offer, for example, product service packages where time is
of the essence. A necessary condition to achieve this is an efficient and
   specially adapted logistics network.

What is your cost-optimized level of service?

ifp consulting will support your company’s creation of a logistics network
that will make it possible to bind customers while optimizing your costs.
We develop the structures necessary for this and create cost transparency
so you will also be able to optimally price your services.

If you wish, we will also help you with the implementation itself!

The ideal property for your new site

Deciding on a city is not where the search for a good location ends

Quite the contrary, this is where it actually starts. What good will it do
to have found a sales point when you cannot find the right property to
start from? Searching for an appropriate property is therefore just as
important as the initial search for a site itself – ideally, the two will
   be led parallel.

ifp consulting will find just the right property for your new location in
    Germany.

Together with our contacts in communities on site, we will compile a
suitable portfolio for you. Using an extensive checklist specifically
customized for your situation, we will evaluate offers and determine which
property best suits your needs. By communicating directly with the
proprietors, you will also save the brokerage fee usually added to the
   purchase price.

If desired, we will handle everything very discretely and the name of your
company will remain unknown during the request.

What shape is your supply chain in?

Awareness is always the first step forward

Where do which costs arise? Where do we have unused potential? What risks
lurk in the shadows of value chains? What is your field’s best practice?

ifp consulting’s tried and tested supply chain fitness check will examine
all aspects of your supply chain. How healthy is your value network and
how well adjusted is it to your clients’ needs?

As unbiased experts, we will sketch a realistic picture of your company’s
situation. With our experience, we are able to answer your questions and
to show you what kind of leverage you hold in your hands.

To keep it short: What shape is your supply chain in?

   ifp regional database

The power of the ifp regional database

When deciding on a new site, you compare Poland to the Czech Republic. But
would you also compare the greater area of Stuttgart to the Lausitz region
within Germany? Moreover, would the time you use searching for data not be
better spent already drawing the right conclusions?

In order to be able to compare designated target areas during the early
stages of searching for a location, we have developed the ifp regional
   database.

With your help, we are able to gather all key figures and information
relevant for the search for a location on a regional level (for statistics
experts: NUTS II) – precise and time-saving. Our methodical approach will
enable us to create extensive profiles of the target areas and to
calculate the economic efficiency of your endeavour together.

As a result, you will be comparing Poznan to Pilsen instead of Poland to
the Czech Republic. This way, your location search will be more precise,
faster and better, thanks to the ifp regional database.

We can also accompany you during the following phases of the process to
   ensure that everything goes smoothly.

   Outstanding tools and methods

If you have more than one hammer, you will not see every problem as a nail

That is why we have a multitude of state-of-the-art tools and methods at
our disposal to help plan and optimize your supply chain.

      IBM ILOG LogicNet Plus

Ranging from a complete simulation of your network to a fast and
conclusive evaluation model – ifp consulting can help with the right tool
   at the right time.

With IBM ILOG LogicNet Plus XE©, we analyse and evaluate procurement,
transport, production and distribution costs and structures in
consideration of individual clients’ profit margins. Using our integrated
Solver CPLEX©, we optimize the built-up network considering individual
criteria (e.g. minimal cost, maximum profit, 24-hour delivery).

LogicNet can solve the so-called Capacitated Facility Location Problem
(CFLP) which deals with minimizing the overall network’s costs by matching
a number of predetermined customer locations (reductions) to a
predetermined number of possible supply locations (distribution centres,
production facilities or suppliers). Cost factors are fixed and variable
operating costs of the supply locations, costs for opening or closing
locations as well as transport costs on all routes.

Great experience with planning and implementation

You can only learn to swim in deep waters

Something that holds true for life but should also be thought of when
planning your supply chain: You can only optimally plan the interaction of
single elements in a value chain if you control every one of them.
ifp consulting is a renowned expert for production and logistics and will
be your field-tested partner for finding intelligent solutions alongside
   your supply chain.

We have a broad spectrum of experience at our disposal which comes from
three decades of industrial practice in virtually every field. We stand
for a multitude of successfully realized factories, logistics centres and
transport concepts. That is why we know the fine workings of efficient
production and logistics systems. Similar to engineers, we make sure that
our concepts will also successfully work in the real world.

Make use of our experience concerning production and logistics as a
    foundation for your supply chain!
